NSW: National Party criticises early daylight saving
Clocks will be put forward an hour at 2am this Sunday in daylight saving states --
two months earlier than usual for the sake of the Sydney Olympics.
Nnew South Wales National Party leader GEORGE SOURIS says in many far-western country
towns in the NSW, sunrise will occur after 7.30am from next week.
He says even in Sydney many schoolchildren will be forced to catch their buses in the
dark, with the sun rising after 7.20am.
However, not all clocks in NSW will be put forward: the Twin Towns Services Club in
the north of the state is keeping its clocks on standard time, to keep pace with its Queensland
neighbours over the border.
A spokeswoman for the club says as it's just metres from the border, daylight saving
only creates confusion.
Mr SOURIS says many businesses in Broken Hill, in far western NSW, have also chosen
not to put forward their clocks, staying in line with South Australian time.
