VIC:Police probe link between brawls

A brawl in Melbourne's west has been linked to an African beauty pageant that's sparked
trouble for the second year running.

Bottles were hurled at police as they tried to break up fighting between two gangs
at a park in Braybrook about 1.30 this morning.

One officer was hit in the face with a bottle and the other was punched in the back
of the head .. while their car windscreen was chipped and its emergency lights shattered.

Police say they're investigating a link between the brawl and a machete attack at a
party in the city's southeast to celebrate the Miss South Sudan Australia beauty pageant.
